Just a few terms and phrases that I or other people may use that you may not have heard of, some are technical terms and some are slang, others are just plain simple and you could figure them out yourself but I'll throw them in anyway.
Access - When people talk about access they are talking about how to get in to a location.
Cable Release - Just another word for shutter release.
CF - Compact Flash.
Dead Pixels - This can happen on your LCD screen which is not the worst thing in the world or on your sensor which is worse, it is when pixels stop working and appear blue on your images.
F-Stop - It is the F in F/5.6 and stands for F-Stop.
Gels - The technical term is theatrical lighting gels simplified down to coloured acetate, everyone just calls them gels though.
Glass - A photographer may call their lens glass.
Graphin' - a short slang word to replace the word photographing.
Hot Pixels - Where pixels on your sensor can overheat producing different coloured pixels in your images, this happens more often at night because you are using long exposures.
Lensman - Just another word for a photographer.
Light Graff - Better known as Light Graffiti, or light drawing where someone will use a torch to draw lines in the exposure.
Moonrise - Just like sunrise the moon rises as the night goes on.
Noctography - This is the easy one, Noctography means Nocturnal Photography, you should know hat already or you wouldn't be here now.
Noise - This is the grain in a digital image.
Noise Reduction - What the camera does after an exposure to get rid of noise, this takes the same amount of time as the exposure was.
Orbs - An orb is where you spin a light source on a piece of string and turn in a circle during an exposure, there are different methods of this.
Photog - Just a word for a photographer or doing photography.
Pod - What some photographers may call their tripod.
Polaris - If you hear some night photographers talking about this it is the north star.
Shooting - A word for taking photographs.
Snapper - Just another word for a photographer.
Snapping - Another word for taking photographs
SOOC (Straight out of camera) - An expression used when an image is unedited and is being viewed as it was on the cameras LCD.
Spinning - Anyone who talks about spinning is not on about some dancing, it is a term used where you attach a light source to the end of a piece of wood and spin it round during a long exposure, this can also be used to create orbs.
Stacking - This is a method where you take several exposures then blend them together in post production.
Star Trails - A star trail is where your shutter is left open and the earth rotates on it's axis but the stars do not move creating lines with stars in the image.
Strobe - a term for a repeatedly fired flash.
Tog - Not a term I use myself but is what I have heard some people call a photographer.
